Linsey Premo with AMSOIL is headed back to Cali for King of the Hammers, race fans.
Fresh off a trip to the opening round of the 2020 Swap Moto Series, I’m hopping back on a Delta plane to take in the spectacle of 2020 King-of-the-Hammers week.
No stranger to the epic week people call the “Burning Man of Off-Road Racing,” I have my hiking boots, dust bandannas and layers packed, ready to take in all that is about to erupt on the lakebed.
Flooding the lakebed
Each year, thousands of hardcore spectators and more than 400 competitors flood Johnson Valley to create the city affectionately known as “Hammertown.”
King of the Hammers includes racing throughout the week, with the Mack Daddy of them all, the Nitto King of the Hammers, taking place Friday, Feb. 7.
The event was conceived by a pair of racers in search of bragging rights and a case of beer. Get all the details here.
King of the Hammers combines desert racing and rock-crawling throughout 200 miles of grueling trails.
It’s no wonder nearly 80,000 people are expected to flood this otherwise deserted valley Jan. 31 – Feb. 7 to witness all the havoc.
Stick around to watch the flames fly on Kenny Hauk’s wrecker and see if anyone needs him to wrench them out of an obstacle.
Off-road emcee Tiffany Stone will be covering all the behind-the-scenes action throughout race week.
And that’s just in Hammertown. Out on the course, Bryce Menzies will be competing in both the UTV and T1 Truck race.
Brad Lovell and crew will take the course to compete in the Every Man Challenge (EMC).
Levi Shirley will compete alongside the Lovells in the EMC as well as the King-of-the-Hammer’s race on Friday.
AMSOIL will once again provide lubricants for all BFGoodrich pit locations throughout the race course. BFGoodrich offers complimentary pit support to racers competing exclusively on BFGoodrich tires.
All visitors to Johnson Valley are also encouraged to dispose of their motor oil and gear oil properly at the BFGoodrich garage located just outside Hammertown.
Be sure to tune in to our stories as we bring you all the behind-the-scenes action from the lakebed.
